No white Residue

Highly concentrated in natural fat that melts at body temperature, it is readily absorbed into the skin without leaving any white film or residue

In our development research we found that one of the biggest complaints that kept coming up amongst women of color was that the sunscreens on the market left a white or greyish film on their skin. So Palmer’s® chemists worked to make sure that all of our products absorbed quickly and gave skin a radiant, healthy looking glow without any white residue.

water resistant

Water resistance is determined in a clinical test environment and measures the sun protection factor following a defined water immersion procedure as established by Cosmetics Europe Guidelines. For product to achieve a “water resistant” designation, the product must retain at least 50% of its original protection factor after 20 minutes of water immersion. Products that are “very water resistant” must retain their active protection performance after four 20-minute sessions of water immersion. Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula Eventone Suncare formulas all tested as “very water resistant”. It is always recommended to reapply your sunscreens after swimming or water exposure.

UVA/UVB

There are two types of rays that reach the Earth’s surface and we are exposed to: UVA rays and UVB rays. Originally sunscreens were designed to protect against UVB rays only- which cause sunburn and melanoma, but only account for a small portion of the full UV spectrum. UVA (ultraviolet-A) is a longer wavelength of sunlight accounts for about 95% of all UV light reaching the Earth's surface. It not only penetrates clouds and glass but remains consistently the about the same strength regardless of the time of day or time of year. UVA rays penetrate the skin more deeply and are responsible for photo ageing (wrinkles, dark spots, uneven skin tone) and also are a contributing factor to skin cancer. Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula Eventone products all provide excellent protection from both UVA and UVB rays. According to the EU, broad spectrum protection is determined by the ratio of UVA to UVB protection. A product must achieve a ratio of 1/3 UVA protection in order to achieve the broad spectrum label claim. The UVA protection is determined by the UVA-PF test and then calculated based on the SPF of the product.

CocoaPlex™ Technology

CocoaPlex™ Technology is a proprietary formulation technique which optimizes the skin-friendly properties of Palmer’s® Cocoa Butter while enhancing the sunscreen emulsification. Used in each Palmer’s® Eventone® Suncare product, this technology provides these unique benefits:

MAINTAIN EVEN SKIN TONE: Helps keep skin tone balanced and free of dark spots, age spots or marks that can perceivably make you look older

SUPERIOR MOISTURE: Creates a natural, breathable barrier between skin and the environment to retain moisture and prevent skin dehydration

ANTI-AGING PROTECTION: Contains Cocoa Mass Polyphenols (CMPs) that provide antioxidant protection against age-accelerating free radicals, keeping skin more youthful in appearance

Sun protection factor
(SPF)

SPF: The Sun Protection Factor (SPF) rating system was introduced in 1962 to measure a sunscreen’s effect against UVB rays, the particular UV wave that causes sunburn, sun damage and can contribute to skin cancer.
SO WHAT DOES THE NUMBER MEAN?
Let’s say your skin, with no sunscreen, would typically burn after 10 minutes of sun exposure. An SPF 15 simply means that you can now multiple that time (10 minutes) x 15 (for a sun factor product of SPF 15)= 150 minutes of sun protection without burning. This of course is subject to variables such as the intensity of the sun, your skin type and complete coverage during application. Most dermatologists recommend using a SPF 15 or 30 as the higher SPF levels don’t necessarily provde much more protection:

cocoa butter

Palmer’s uses prime-pressed, unrefined cocoa butter, obtained by hydraulic pressing instead of heat and solvent extraction to retain the purity and preserve all the natural skin care benefits of the ingredient. 43% of the world’s cocoa butter is sourced in Africa where it is used to care for sun-exposed skin. The high fat content in cocoa butter mimics the natural protective layer of the skin, and even has the same melting point as body temperature, making it an important skin moisturiser and protectant. Cocoa butter is also rich in antioxidants, most notably mass polyphenols which help combat free radical damage-the main culprit of premature aging.

shea butter

Palmer’s Shea Butter is ethically and sustainably sourced in Burkina Faso, West Africa. Inherently a superior skin moisturiser, Shea butter is loaded with vitamins and antioxidants and even provides some of its own natural sun protection. Shea Butter helps to nourish and protect skin as well as improving skin’s tone and texture.

coconut oil

Coconut oil is no stranger to the sun care category, historically used in tanning oils and tan extending products. More recently coconut oil has been rediscovered and repurposed for sun protection. Rich in lauric acid as well as poly and mono saturated fats, coconut oil is deeply hydrating and has the added benefit of giving skin a natural glow, helping to improve absorption and counteracting off any white, pasty residue left by traditional sunscreens.

faq

One person dies of melanoma every hour1 and each year in the US nearly 5 million people are treated for skin cancer2. Over the past three decades more people have had skin cancer than all over cancers combined and the numbers continue to grow each year3. And while the statistical incidence of melanoma is less frequent in African Americans, the fatality rate is much higher. The overall 5 year melanoma survival rate for African Americans is only 77% vs 91% for Caucasians4. Palmer’s is committed to consumer education on the importance of using of sunscreens amongst all ethnicities. All of our products have been verified and certified with the Skin Cancer Foundation as effective broad spectrum sunscreens. The Skin Cancer foundation classifies products in separate categories to help consumers make their purchasing decisions based on their intended use:

“Daily Use” products are intended to protect consumers from incidental sun exposure that occurs in short periods of time. In order to qualify a product must be at least SPF 15, and provide UVA testing, contact irritancy testing and phototoxicity testing. Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula Eventone Sunscreen Balm and Face Lotion are both certified for “daily use”.

“Active” products should protect consumers from extended sun exposure, or during recreational activities. In order to qualify a product must be at least SPF 30, have a water resistance of 40 minutes or 80 minutes, and provide UVA testing, contact irritancy testing and phototoxicity testing. Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula Eventone Sunscreen Lotion, Spray and Stick all are certified for active use and contain the highest allowable water resistance of 80 minutes.
